HASS IN SEMESTER 2
Welcome to a new term and semester at Gwynne Park Primary School. Our hard working staff have been busy creating exciting and informative HASS programs. We now delve in the area of Geography. It is important for our students to understand the world around us and how the world, its places, environments and connections have built and continue to build our future. Each year our students learn about topics that are built upon as they progress through their learning journey.
In the Pre Primary we look at the places around us, why our country is special to our first nations people and are introduced to maps. In Year 1 we learn about our weather and seasons and the natural and constructed features of places. For Year 2 its Australia’s location, its places and the different connections we have to these places and placing where we live on a map. In Year 3 we start to learn more about the map of Australia, the natural and man made features of Australia and their connection to our First nations People. We also gain an understanding of the different climates, our nearest neighbours and compare the similarities and differences of Australia to other places. Our Year 4 students study different environments, the significance of the environments, and protection of the environment. In Year 5 students are taught about the factors that change places, from the environment to people and natural disasters. Students are also introduced to world geography. In Year 6 we become more familiar with the cultural diversity across Asia and the world, global connections, and explore perceptions, stereotypes, and generalisations about places.
Our Teachers provide learning experiences for HASS in a number of different ways so as to gain students interest and maintain a fun and inclusive learning environment.
